Black Food Justice, Digital Storytelling, & Community Partnerships :: Thursday, Dec. 8 at 5pm EST (online)

This Thursday at 5pm EST, AADHum is pleased to present Growing Greater, a virtual event exploring digital storytelling and Black food justice in Chicago.

We will preview “Growing a Greater Englewood,” (season 2, ep. 3), an audio story profiling one organization’s work toward Black community food sovereignty. This episode of Change Agents the Podcast was co-produced by Dr. Liz Alexander, Assistant Clinical Professor at AADHum and MITH, and Dylan Cohen, a Chicago-based immersive curator and digital ethnographer specializing in theatre, media, and storytelling.

The podcast preview will be followed by a talkback with members of Grow Greater Englewood and of the Change Agents the Podcast production team.

After the convo, you can also join Dr. Alexander for a digital storytelling workshop based on the podcast episode. This workshop will focus on developing visual stories about Black food justice. We will be using free online software to learn how to create narrative GIFS derived from the podcast episode!

Where do you get food when the grocery stores aren't open, or when their shelves have gone bare? Many Chicagoans asked themselves this question for the first time during the 2020 Covid pandemic, but for those living in the food deserts of the city's West and South sides, the question wasn't a new one.

Grow Greater Englewood is a Southside Chicago-based urban farming collective working with community stakeholders to develop local food economies and land sovereignty, empowering residents to thrive.
